I reviewed the network settings on the laptop and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Instead of being in the .x format it is like an APIPA address (.x), though the laptop itself does have a valid IP in the .x format. The software installs fine, connects to the scanner and updates the address book, but the IP address in the address book is wrong. However, I installed it for the first time on Windows 8.1 a couple of weeks ago and it is not working.

We have never had a problem with this in Windows 7 or XP. When you install the software it links to the scanner and updates the address book with your username and IP address.

We use a Sharp MX-4141N for most of our scanning, with the preferred method (of management) being scan to desktop using the accompanying Sharpdesk software.
